A new study conducted by DATA-CAN, the Health Care Research Hub for Cancer has warned that as many as 35,000 people may needlessly die from lack of Cancer care treatments due to the Coronavirus Pandemic.
I’ve adjusted the headline slightly from what the rest of the media is stating to make it clear what this means. The BBC for example headlined this news as ‘Coronavirus could cause 35,000 extra UK cancer deaths, experts warn', but these deaths are not because of the Coronavirus itself, they are due to the response taken over the virus by the UK Government.
The BBC Reports:
Scientists suggest there could be at least 7,000 additional deaths – but in a worst case scenario that number could be as high as 35,000.
There are concerns routine screenings, urgent referrals and treatments have been delayed or cancelled.
NHS England said it was working hard to restore services.
Scientists examined data from eight hospital trusts and shared their findings exclusively with BBC Panorama.
The study, conducted by DATA-CAN, the Health Care Research Hub (HDR UK) for Cancer, modelled different outcomes depending on how long services take to get back to normal levels.
In a worst case scenario, if delays continue, there could be 35,000 additional cancer deaths within a year.
While I take issue to many cancer treatments offered by the NHS and therefore it could be argued that my agreement in this warning is contradictory to any claims I may have made in the past about certain cancer treatments.
But whether I believe the Cancer treatment offered is the best method to approach Cancer is irrelevant, tens of thousands of people requiring urgent medical attention about something as dreaded as Cancer have been living in limbo, feeling like their chance for survival has been entirely taken away from their control.
Add to this the lockdown measures themselves, the stress, the continual fear propaganda media being driven into their homes 24/7, well the result is an even further immune suppression. People like to dismiss the power of the mind over health, but Science will tell you that it is one of the most important factors in maintaining optimum health.
