SYRIAN activists are urging the Government to call an immediate halt to airstrikes amid fears British bombing raids will result in civilian deaths.
The plea comes as a senior captain in the RAF said he was “absolutely confident” there would be no collateral damage for ordinary Syrians.
Campaigners from Raqqa Is Being Slaughtered Silently, which is located in the de facto capital of Islamic State, said using warplanes to strike Syrian jihadi targets would not solve the problem of ISIS – also known as Daesh.
In a series of tweets, the group claimed the UK would “not make any change in the situation” and that Britain could better help the country by accepting Syrian refugees and “not close the border”.
They added: “Just bombing #ISIS In #Raqqa from the sky will not defeat #ISIS but it will make people suffers more [sic].
“#ISIS will use #UK strikes to recruit new people in the west and new fighters and maybe they will do terrorist attacks.”
But Captain Richard Davies, of RAF Marham, insisted no civilians would be hurt.
