Oregon County appears to have a confused idea to what racism actually is, well at least that’s what their latest order[1] on Face Masks infers:
Health officials announced last week residents must wear face coverings in public settings where they may come within six feet of another individual who is not from the same household.
But people of color do not have to follow the new rule if they have “heightened concerns about racial profiling and harassment” over wearing the masks, officials said.[2]
That’s right, apparently that clever little coronavirus is not interested in non-white people and therefore only white people need to wear masks. Wait a minute, or is it that we don’t care about the non-whites and therefore they don’t have to wear the masks?
Or maybe it’s just because the face masks don’t really do anything anyway and the glorified seasonal flu virus is now dying off, so in an attempt to win the best non-racist County of the year award they decided to exempt non-whites.
Sounds like more 2020 logic to me.
The actual justification for this is the idea that a Black man wearing a face covering is setting themselves up for more abuse from law enforcement and racists.
“This is in the larger context of black men fitting the description of a suspect who has a hood on, who has a face covering on,” Logan, an economics professor at Ohio State University, told the outlet.[2]
Who Logan is and why his input is relevant I have no idea, but apparently this is the reason such an exemption is in place.
